Book Summary
Steve Curry, now a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) for the United States Forest Service, and his horse Willie, survive the night in a snow cave after a weekend trip on Teddy’s Peak. An unseasonable Canadian cold front has blasted the Cuchara Valley with sub zero temperatures and vicious winds. After Steve digs out he is confronted with the strangest sight of his life; a crashed airplane protruding from the frozen surface of Bear Lake. The grotesque apparition looms like some glacial creature frozen in its death throes.
The investigation proceeds as a routine airplane crash until Steve discovers a critical clue, The Footprint in the Lake. Steve finds himself thrust into the maelstrom of an international terror investigation. Almost overnight, the Secret Service, the Diplomatic Security Service and the CIA are swarming throughout the Cuchara Valley. They desperately try to uncover and apprehend a known Somali terrorist before the top secret meeting of Arab leaders convenes at the Cuchara Wilderness Center. Steve is shocked to learn that the President of the United States and the Secretary of State are scheduled to make appearances at the same conference.
Interwoven among the looming crisis are: a rogue CIA agent with the most explosive secret in the war on terror and a tragedy-driven obsession, a dead Somali terrorist who’s DNA is inexplicably discovered in the crashed airplane and a CIA secret that explodes into the "I can’t believe it" conclusion.
